Build Your Own Home Gym

Updated: May 11, 2022

Yes! Home Gyms are still a thing. Garages and spare rooms are being converted into makeshift gyms. But home gyms shouldn't be seen as inferior to the real thing. In fact, plenty of gym-goers are now performing the same exercises they used to do in their local fitness centres from the comfort of their own homes.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN HOME GYM

Building a home gym doesn’t have to be complicated. While it might seem daunting, a home gym can be as little or as much as you want it to be. If you do have a spare room or garage to convert, then you'll have more options and the space to be creative. But even a dedicated corner somewhere in your house can give you the room you need to keep fit.

WHAT DO I NEED?

The beauty of building a space for yourself is that you can customise it to suit your fitness needs and goals. But if you’re new to this and are in need of home fitness ideas, here are some of the top pieces of equipment to put in your home gym.

THE RIG/RACK

A squat rack is the centre piece of any home gym. A rack is a great tool, because it allows you to lift heavy weights safely. Unlike traditional machines in the gym, the power rack is extremely versatile. You can use it for back squats, front squats, shoulder press, deadlifts, bench press and heavy rows. We recommend our wall mounted foldable rack.

A BARBELL

Barbells allow you to lift heavier with more control since you're holding the bar with both hands and recruiting several muscles at once. The most standard barbell in gyms, the one you will find in most racks is called an Olympic barbell which weighs 20 kg

WEIGHTS PACK

The GymEx bumper plates are perfect for many set-ups such as commercial gyms, strength and conditioning facilities, CrossFit centres and home garages. The plates are rubber based making them ideal for any training environment. They offer a consistent dead bounce when dropped which prevents your spring collars from getting loose due to minimal barbell bounce. Our GymEx 100kg pack is an essential addition to any home gym.

GYM FLOORING

One of our top sellers - The GymEx rubber tile flooring. The flooring is anti-slip wet or dry which ensures athlete safety. It offers enhanced shock absorption - perfect for weight drop applications and best of all its a simple installation with no adhesives required.
